So…. a few months ago, I found out that I was pregnant! We had decided that it was time for kids, but
as a doctor I knew that it takes an average of three months to conceive so we
planned accordingly. As many of you know, sometimes things happen faster than
expected and my experience was no exception.
My medical knowledge of pregnancy and the surrounding issues
seem to serve me best while in my role as “doctor”. But when it comes to treating myself, it is
impossible to be both doctor and patient at the same time! Fortunately I have a
wonderful OB/GYN who will let me walk that fine line between my two roles.
My due date is July 7th , plus or minus 2
weeks. This flexibility in my due date
is important to me because it will reduce the chances of being unnecessarily
induced.
I am fascinated by the
way the body changes, even at the very earliest stages of pregnancy! It makes
me realize why I love my job as a Family Practice Doctor. It also makes me realize why treating a body
holistically is so important and rewarding.
Before anyone panics that I am retiring to mommy-hood, you all
know by now how much I love my practice and patients. I will not be giving up my practice. In fact,
I’ll be gaining incredible experience and insight into the pregnancy, birth and
parenting process! I went to school many
years and being a Family Doctor is part of me and who I am.
I am writing this blog to chronicle the medical experience
and foibles of pregnancy and how me–the-patient and me-the-doctor navigate this
amazing process!
